Developed by two computer science Master’s students at Stanford University, Alex Zhu and Michael Bernstein, alphaXiv is an online discussion forum connecting researchers and academics worldwide. They won the prestigious Magic Grant from the Brown Institute for Media Innovation in June 2023. alphaXiv allows everyone, from students to professors, to discuss and ask questions about papers posted on arXiv. alphaXiv aims to create an open, respectful, and helpful discussion environment for researchers.

Community Guidelines:

Content: alphaXiv does not tolerate harassment, bullying, or threats of violence. Any users that incite violence or that promote hate based on identity or vulnerability will be banned. Do not expose anyone’s private information.
Civility: Do not post anything that could be considered offensive, abusive, or hate speech. Do not use profanity or post anything obscene or explicit. Do not spam or vandalize any papers.
Identity: On alphaXiv, you may change your publicly displayed user name a maximum of one time. Additionally, to enhance transparency and accountability, we ask for your real name on account creation. While this is not publicly visible, the alphaXiv moderation team may view this information. Any reports of impersonation may result in a ban. After signing up, any future changes to your name will require moderation by alphaXiv staff.
Promote Healthy Discussion: Encourage constructive and respectful dialogue. Provide constructive criticism and avoid personal attacks. Focus on discussing ideas rather than attacking individuals. Additionally, for the sake of standing behind your post, all posts here must be with the user’s full name, no pseudonym or display name allowed.
- General: quick clarification questions or additional clarification that would be useful for the community as they read the paper (anybody can comment here and a user can opt to post under a display name if they’d like).
- Private: private comments just visible to the user. useful for jotting down notes.
Normal Usage: Don’t break the site or do anything that interferes with normal use of alphaXiv.
